Description

acceptable white patterns in the Padro Breed. No other patterns are seen.

White Patterns: cover the base coat (go on top). Turn slightly pink around areas with less fur (muzzle, throat, underside belly and chest, inside leg)
note: with white patterns, we do not mean small head and leg markings that may appear on all horses, regardless of genes.

1. Dominant White.
appearance: covering most or all of the horse from the bottom to the top. Note: dominant white is not a base coat or modifier, but a pattern and goes on top of a base coat. Example above: dominant white on chestnut.
genotype: nW only (WW is always lethal)

2. Rabicano
appearance: small, striping marking on horses underside (not the legs)
genotype: nRb or RbRb

3. Tobiano
appearance: marking originating from the topline of the horse. may go all the way down to the legs. Tobiano, as most white patterns, may express maximally, medium or minimally. Usually sharp edges. Must have white on all four legs.
genotype: nT or TT

4. Overo
appearance: marking originating from the center of the horse, usually avoids reaching all the way down or up.
genotype: nO only (OO is always lethal)

5. Sabino
appearance: marking originating from the bottom of the horse. Has sharp or spotted edges. Seldomly extensive
genotype: nSb or SbSb

6. Splash
appearance: similar to Sabino, but can be more extensive and has smooth, flowing edges.
genotype: nSpl or SplSpl

7. Snowflake Appaloosa
appearance: small spots (usually in clusters) on the base coat.
genotype: nLp only

8. Blanket Appaloosa
appearance: marking on the backside of the horse. White marking with holes in it. May have darker spots that extend over the entire coat.
genotype: nLp only

9. Leopard Appaloosa
appearance: you can either see this as a very extensive blanket appaloosa that covers all of the coat, or simply as dominant white with holes in it. Remember: a black leopard horse for example is not white with black spots, but black with a white marking.
genotype: nLp only

10. Snowcap Appaloosa
appearance: Closed form of blanket appaloosa. No holes may appear.
genotype: LpLp only

11. Semi-Leopard Appaloosa
appearance: Interrupted form of leopard appaloosa. Has large open areas showing the base coat.
genotype: LpLp only

Here's a question to ponder. If a Dominant white and an Overo breed together to get nO nW would it be lethal?
